Service PAULIE

This was our second time at GTFO (after doing Visiting Hour last week). The staff was as happy as ever, and the cookies were as there as ever.

BEN

We were here last week, and they’re still as awesome this week!

Puzzles PAULIE

This room was massive. Big rooms usually mean there are a lot to see, touch, shake, or squint at all at once. It becomes overwhelming immediately. Once you slow down and get your bearings, this room will keep you busy throughout the hour. The puzzles were smart and some of them were new.

BEN

This is a pretty big room, so my group decided to go for a divide and conquer approach. There was a good mix of pure thinking puzzles and puzzles that you needed to solve with a lot of physical interaction here!

Look PAULIE

Having a massive room means it’s more challenging to fill the room with props and puzzles. They did a good job as every nook and crevice was covered and made it feel like we were outdoors. The room had plenty of space but did not feel empty.

BEN

It was a beautiful room. Great use of space here, it didn’t feel too crowded or empty at all. The decor was appropriately outdoorsy.

Immersion PAULIE

I had the impression that this room was going to be horror-themed, based on the synopsis online and the backstory given to us. It wasn’t. I was disappointed, but only at the start. The look and music were enough to make us feel immersed but not scared. I would also like to point out that we were warned about the bar downstairs playing loud music, but we did not notice it at all.

BEN

I don’t know why, but I never felt a sense of urgency in this room. Maybe it was because we went with a great group?! That said, this room was still amazing at creating a full experience – it did feel like I was outdoors!

Theme PAULIE

I’m not sure what the theme of this room was. Like I said, I thought it was horror-themed, and there were horror elements for sure, but nothing was overly scary. However, the puzzles and the decor were all related to the theme.

BEN

We thought this would be a scary room, but I think the theme was more just forest-y. There’s a cool feature in this room where the lights get darker as your time runs out (hence “Nightfall”), but I think that it was gradual enough that we didn’t have a lot of trouble with it.

Overall PAULIE

Based on other people’s reviews and just from conversations with other escape room staff members, this is an Edmonton favorite. I can see why. I would give this a #diamond rating. I would definitely recommend this room, especially if you have a friends whose brains work differently to go with.

BEN

I would give this room a #diamond rating. Make sure to bring a bigger group of people who all think a little bit differently!
