Service PAULIE

Logic Lock is tucked away in the middle of downtown Edmonton in a very unsuspecting building. We were there two weeks prior to do The Warehouse of Thieves and as we were going up the stairs to the reception, one of the co-owners immediately said, “Welcome back!” Needless to say, we appreciated this personal touch. After we got out of the room, we also had a lengthy chat with both owners and got a tour of their newest Sherlock-themed room, slated to open in a few weeks. The guys and gal who work there are friendly, personable, and passionate about their jobs. It definitely comes through in their customer service.

BEN

Everything Mr. P said. I love being able to geek out about room design and the escape room scene, so it was fun to be able to do that with the owners! There are also chocolates and tea and coffee!

Puzzles PAULIE

Because Logic Lock is a new-ish company and only has two rooms so far, comparisons between The Warehouse of Thieves and The Poltergeist are tempting to make. From my point of view, both rooms are good. Like Warehouse, The Poltergeist uses technology like never before. This is Logic Lock’s edge against its other competitors in the Edmonton area. They use technology to enhance the experience, not build puzzles around it. With rooms we didn’t escape out of, I still review them as if we did escape, and think about how we would have felt if we did. There were one or two puzzles here that were not intuitive and felt unnecessarily difficult without a hint, but overall, the puzzles were still a hit.

BEN

Logic Lock is great at innovation. They make you interact with things in really unique ways!

There were a couple puzzles that were, like Mr. P said, unnecessarily hard. When we brought this up with the owners at the end, they mentioned that they had some ideas for how to improve those puzzles and asked us for any ideas we had as well. You can definitely tell that they’re committed to providing you with the best experience possible with how receptive they are to feedback and how they are always trying to make things better!

Look PAULIE

As with any other residence-themed rooms, you can’t really do much. A house looks like a house. This one is no different. Like Warehouse, the walls are made of brick which added to the sinister, old-time feel. There is a lot to do once you go in, and it’s a matter of sifting through the irrelevant props and finding what you need.

BEN

It was a rustic take on the typical house-themed room. Nothing groundbreaking, and it was definitely still creepy-looking!

Immersion PAULIE

Unless Logic Lock somehow gets tired of their innovative way of giving clues, I don’t think their immersion score can ever go below a 10. As with The Warehouse of Thieves, the guys behind the desk watch and listen to your every move, and provide hints using a voiceover system. There’s no one coming in and out of the room to make you feel silly for not seeing a puzzle a certain way. (Our game master did run in to fix some things, but it personally didn’t take away from my experience.) It also rained when we were in the room, so that just added more to the feeling of immersion.

BEN

Mr. P went into the awesome things that they do here already.

Another thing about this room is that I personally found the in-room narrator a little bit hard to understand, which broke immersion for me. I guess beings from beyond don’t really need clear speech?

Theme PAULIE

Usually backstories are relegated to the sideline and employees have them memorized and are rushing to tell them–sometimes the story is not even related to any of the puzzles in the room. Logic Lock builds their puzzles around the story. I don’t want to say much about this theme (and even prefacing it already builds it up) so I’ll be mum, but this is the room’s strongest area.

BEN

Logic Lock consistently delivers strong backstories with their rooms. Wanting to find out how the story ends is a really big motivator for me to finish the rooms here!

Overall PAULIE

As with other people who tried Warehouse and enjoyed it, we wanted to try The Poltergeist to see if Logic Lock was consistently great. This room didn’t disappoint. Even if we didn’t escape, I was very satisfied with the room and would give this a #diamond rating. I would recommend it to people that have done a few escape rooms before.

BEN

Logic Lock is turning out to be a very strong player in the escape room scene here in Edmonton. I was pretty satisfied with Poltergeist and would definitely give it a #diamond rating. I recommend this room to people with some escape room experience under their belt! I’m super excited to see what else Logic Lock turns out in the near future!
