Service eighteightPAULIE

It was our first time at this location when we did Prison Break. The lobby was small but very inviting because there was a lot of natural light. The staff was friendly but not chatty, but they were quick to come when we needed hints.

Good service as usual, but I hope they get a leaderboard and an iPad with the pictures set up soon – just like the other Locked Room locations!

Puzzles eighteightPAULIE

There were several portions to this room, and each portion had a good amount and variety of puzzles. There was also a good mix of searching and logic puzzles. We had a hard time starting in this room, particularly because there was a lot to read at the start. We didn’t know what was relevant and what wasn’t. Once we got going though, we found some momentum. We asked for hints several times for some of the puzzles, but in hindsight, everything in the room was intuitive. Overall, the puzzles were solid.

(Random note: There was one puzzle here that was really similar to one of the puzzles in the Hipster Hangover. I didn’t mind because it’s one of the cooler puzzles The Locked Room has.)

Something I learned from the puzzles at The Locked Room is to interact with objects in as many ways as you can. We were stuck for a bit because we play with things as much as we could have.

In terms of creativity, there were one or two “oh wow!” moments, but for the most part, the puzzles in this room were quite straightforward.

There were several portions in this room and all of them were small. The max capacity says up to 6 people can fit, which is definitely possible, but it would be tight. Overall, there’s not much you can do with prison-themed rooms because prison cells are bare to begin with. They did a solid job here.

I think this is one of the better looking prison rooms that we’ve done. Prisons are inherently not the most visually appealing thing to look at, but they did a good job of giving you lots of things to take in here.

Just as a warning, this is a pretty squishy room!

Immersion eighteightPAULIE

Out of all the prison-themed rooms I’ve done, I was the most immersed here. They do a good job setting up the room so that you feel that urge to get out. Each portion that we progressed through also heightened our momentum. There was also an unexpected portion, and I remember shaking and feeling tense when I was opening one of the locks.

Looking back, there’s something about this room that prevented me from really getting into game mode. I think it might have been the searching involved – I’m so bad at it that my brain just kind of shuts down when I need to do it.

It took a little bit to get going in this room, but once we started up, the puzzles kept us engaged for the rest of the time we were there.

Theme eighteightPAULIE

Like I mentioned in my review of Cell No. 8, there’s no shortage of prison-themed rooms. There are a lot out there because “escape” is just inherently attached to the whole notion of prison. This one is no different. They did a solid job making the puzzles consistent with the theme.

eighteightBEN

It’s not a unique theme, but the look, music, story, and most of the puzzles came together pretty cohesively here.

Overall PAULIETv1IU1J

I give this room a #gold. We did this room when we were still rookies in the escape room scene, and we had a good time when we got out. The more you do more escape rooms though, the more you discover how much more escape rooms can accomplish. This wasn’t a bad room at all, but it wasn’t phenomenal either. It was just good. I recommend it if you’re  new to the escape room scene, or if you’re looking to kill time on a random day.

This room receives a #gold. It’s a solid contribution from The Locked Room that is straightforward and well done. Try to do this one with a smaller group, since it can get a little bit tight in the smaller areas.
