As soon as we walked in, one of the guys from behind the desk recognized us right away from a month ago which made us feel good. They were friendly and totally chatty. I gave it a 9 because no one was present when we escaped and we had to loiter around for a few minutes waiting to get our picture taken.

Super friendly as always! Our gamemaster, Tony, from the last time we were here (maybe a month ago?!) also recognized us! That was a nice personal touch, I thought.

The more I do escape rooms at The Locked Room, the more I’m finding them to be… not too hard, but not too easy either. They always have a good mix of searching and logic puzzles, and this one is no different. We struggled a lot (and felt silly) on some of the more obvious puzzles so we wasted a lot of time. However, we still got out with a fair bit of time left. Looking back, I think this was due to the number of puzzles available, which wasn’t very many.

The Locked Room does a good job of having balanced puzzles in terms of how hard they are. Some of the ones in this room really stumped us though! One of my big takeaways from this room is to move and interact with everything you can (within reason of course – don’t break anything!).

House-/apartment-themed escape rooms are ubiquitous because, I’m guessing, they’re easy to replicate and they’re relatable to people. When we were taken to our first room, we had to walk through the other room first, so the excitement was minimized when we did eventually get to the second room. They were going for a hippie-dippy-slash-80s-acid-trip-party-morning-after look and they succeeded for the most part.

It was a pretty regular house-looking room. There was a cool surprise in this room that I really enjoyed though!

I’m a fan of music in escape rooms because it’s the easiest and surest way to get participants feeling immersed in their environment. This one was no different, but only in the first room. The second room depended on the first room’s music, which became faint from the distance.

You know what, I think this room did feel kind of like the morning after a crazy party! I liked the music that they played too – it was fun and whimsical!

The name of this room is “Hipster Hangover”, which implies hipsters having a late night out and passing out from too much vice. I would say they succeeded with the “hangover” part, but not the “hipster” part. Without giving too much away,  I would say the people involved in the hangover were definitely not hipsters. This rendered some of the puzzles thematically unfaithful.

I think this is a cool new take on a typical house-style room! There’s a lot of apartment-style horror-themed rooms out there, so it’s nice to see that a house-style room can be done without being scary.

Overall Tv1IU1JPAULIE

I’m giving this a #gold rating. This room was not too hard, not too easy, totally suited for a random Saturday afternoon when you’re wanting to kill time before supper with friends. Whether you’re an escape room pro, or are introducing friends to the scene, this is a good room to experience.

This gets a #gold for being a fun room. Just watch your head though – I bumped mine at the start and was dizzy for the rest of the room.
